We are a team of physical and occupational therapists that specialize in providing care that goes above and beyond to help find individual solutions for both individual clients and for companies looking to improve their safety and injury prevention programs. We started in 2015 after seeing the growing need in healthcare to bring the focus back to the individuals and to give them the care and guidance that they deserve to get back to living their lives fully.

Founder & CEO
OTR/L, IA WCS, CES, FNS
After working as an Occupational Therapist for a decade, I started Balanced Fitness & Health in 2015 with the goal of helping people live healthy, pain-free lives. My customized work with businesses and individuals has been very rewarding in that regard. Whether I’m focusing on getting a worker back on the job or guiding someone to reduce chronic pain, it’s about the whole person’s well-being, self esteem and health.
In order to offer optimized injury prevention and wellness services, I received a master’s degree and certification in Occupational Therapy and an undergraduate degree in Psychology. I have also earned certification as an Iowa Workers' Compensation Specialist and completed training as a Corrective Exercise Specialist and Fitness Nutrition Specialist. This unique blend of capabilities enables me to offer excellent results for preventing injury, improving worker safety and fully rehabilitating people recovering from an injury or surgery.
I look forward to providing the services you need to achieve a healthier, happier and more balanced life!
One of the key aspects of my training includes my ability to work with the psychosocial aspects of injury. Through my own injury and by treating and caring for people injured on the job, I feel driven to focus on the multiple layers of healing—both physical and mental. It is clear that overall health as well as behaviors, coping abilities, motivation and nutrition all contribute to healing and recovery progress. For this reason, we are committed to treating the whole person, every time someone walks into our clinic.
My Work Experience
For 10 years, I focused on consistent, quality patient care as an Occupational Therapist. My role with Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids included work conditioning and worker’s comp rehabilitation for a wide range of industries. In this position, I developed strengths in identifying and addressing ergonomic and other preventive measures, and in helping people achieve superior outcomes following injury and surgery. I’m also comfortable working in hospital, home and outpatient clinic settings to bring clients the best possible results.
My Personal Experience
Having personally struggled to recover from a car accident and chronic low back pain, I identify strongly with anyone who has suffered injury. The accident threatened my ability to live a healthy lifestyle. With a motivation to become stronger and healthier, I competed in figure/bodybuilding for six years. I grew and learned from making lifestyle changes, which enhanced my physical energy and mental clarity. Today, I’m a busy mother of two, and realize the need to always seek balance in life and fitness.

As a Physical Therapist for more than 13 years, I have worked with all populations in outpatient and skilled therapy settings. I am also a Balanced Body Pilates instructor and have received specialized training in nutrition. My professional expertise and personal experience with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) enable me to help clients through pain relief, nutrition and life skills to reach new levels they didn’t think were possible.
When I was diagnosed with RA, I had just given birth to our third child. I could barely lift our son because of the pain. Getting out of a chair was difficult. Medications controlled the arthritis, but the side effects, both short- and long-term, led me to seek other answers. I made lifestyle changes in 2013, incorporating Functional Medicine, nutrient dense food, Pilates and Physical Therapy. I am now medication-free and pain-free and have completed multiple athletic events.
I believe we were created to thrive in this world, performing the work we were created to perform. Treating the body as a whole is the answer! To that end, I will apply my new holistic nutrition certification along with Pilates and Physical Therapy to help each client find their way to his or her healthiest possible life.

I’m excited to be working with people after spending several years with the human interface on a computer. Having received my biomedical engineering degree, I helped design and develop software to simulate the body mechanics of soldiers in combat. While I loved that work, I was eager to apply my knowledge to helping people one on one.
As a physical therapist, I love helping others find balance and live a life with less pain. After all, we are all unique, and it takes an individualized approach to find this balance and improve the human experience. My engineering background has strengthened my ability to address and correct suboptimal movement patterns, preventing injury and rehabilitating patients after an injury or surgery has occurred.

I’m excited to be part of Balanced Fitness & Health’s Workers’ Compensation team! I graduated from the Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) program at Kirkwood Community College and worked at another Corridor-based physical therapy clinic for two years. While there, I was introduced to the work comp world and saw what a huge difference I could make in helping people return to their jobs.
When I was little, I loved to help people, and I would make my family members and pets be my “patients.” I experienced a sports injury in high school, which took me on the path to a career in physical therapy. I enjoy getting to see people along their journey from being hurt and unable to do the things they love. Doing that and building relationships along the way is super rewarding.

I’m in my element at BFH, where I enjoy getting to know clients and helping with scheduling, billing and more. My parents had a jewelry store, where I learned how important it is to make sure people are happy. We strive to have a welcoming environment so everyone feels comfortable with us and the facility. I also manage the Worker’s Compensation and corporate client billing to ensure that fits with their processes. I look forward to meeting any new individual or corporate clients and assisting them with whatever they need.
