What is your New Year’s resolution? To lose weight? Get in shape? Has it been the same every year, only to last a month or two and then be forgotten until the next year?
What if this year were different? What if—instead of emphasizing weight loss and grueling workouts—you just focused on health. General, overall health. Treating your body with kindness and love so that you can live to your fullest potential and thrive in this stress-filled, chaotic life.
So what does that mean? It means lifestyle changes. It’s not about the scale. It’s not about getting up at 5 AM every day to beat yourself silly at the gym. It’s not about depriving yourself of everything you love. It’s about taking care of and treating your body the way it was meant to be treated.
To me and the team here at Balanced Fitness & Health, the lifestyle changes center around 7 simple things:
Loving who you are, yet striving to be the best you.
Fueling your body.
Getting the sleep you need.
Spending quality time with family and friends.
Finding your purpose.
Accepting “what is” to create balance.
These are the seven principles I’d like to guide you through during the upcoming months of this blog. Each time, I’ll cover more about self appreciation, nutrition, exercise, sleep, relationships, purpose and acceptance. To receive email notifications about each topic, sign up here.
Focusing on Choices Eases Stress
You see, when we take the emphasis off weight loss and deprivation and turn our focus toward adding the things we need for our optimal health, it takes the stress out of the equation! It becomes a choice to take care of your body, not a marching order to exercise and eat right.
When you feel the energy bursting from inside you because you have eaten the nutrients your body craves, slept enough to allow your body to recover, moved your body in a healthy way that you enjoy and spent time laughing and playing with loved ones, you will see that these CHOICES are well worth it.
Can you slip now and then and enjoy a pastry or be lazy for a day on the couch? Absolutely! But the difference now is that the next day or meal you will CHOOSE to get back on track because you like how that feels. You like feeling well enough to tackle and enjoy all the chaos of life. It means you can THRIVE day to day, living in the moment and living life to the fullest.
So let’s choose to make 2017 different. Let’s ditch vague resolutions. Instead, let’s CHOOSE to make lifestyle changes that will last a lifetime. Allow yourself to take your natural shape and size, fill up with energy and vitality, and feel yourself THRIVE in who you were created to be!
